Should you ask to take a stranger's photo on the street?

Ricoh GR III Street Photography Point-of-View #7 takes us through the urban streets of downtown Indianapolis while I ask strangers if I can take their pictures. This is the best way to do street photography as it allows you to compose the shot, capture the personality in the subject's eyes, and possibly gain a follower, client, or even friend.

The Ricoh GR III, while made primarily as a street camera, is not the easiest to use in situations where there are not a lot of people roaming the streets. I purchased my Ricoh GR III before the Covid and Protest shutdowns, and would likely not have done so if I had waited to see what the current climate and conditions are.

The focus  of the Ricoh GR III is tack sharp and incredible. However, while still getting used to not having a viewfinder, and only a display screen, which is difficult if not impossible at times to see what you came up with, most of the shots from this photo walk were a mystery to me until I got home and loaded them in Lightroom.

I expect a couple more attempts with the Ricoh GR III and I'll have the Snap Focus feature mastered, and won't NEED to see each shot in the viewfinder to see if exposure/focus are accurate. The Covid crisis and then protests have kept me from being able to use the Ricoh GR III enough to master the controls and features, but that time will come. And I have confidence my purchase will have been well worth the $900 price tag.

I'll continue to forge ahead with my Ricoh GR III and use it in as many photo situations I can to help give an example of the power of this little beast and how it can produce incredible images, while easy to carry, engage and use compared to the bulky DSLR.
